Google Nexus 5 Android 9 Pie D821 hammerhead with a custom ROM to clone the new Google Pixel 3 phone
This is Google's popular Nexus 5 smartphone in the 16GB storage version. It has recently had a new battery installed. I have also applied a strong, high quality glass screen protector (i-Glow brand). I don't have a charger to give with it, but it takes a standard micro USB charging and data cable. You can charge it from your computer, or use a standard AC charger. Our family had several Nexus 5s. I have a box, but its not the one that came with this phone. I also have the manuals and inserts, but I don't have the SIM tray removal tool. Any pin will do. See set photo for details. You receive only the items shown in the picture. Oh - I forgot. I have a new black case for it. I forgot to put it in the pictures.
The firmware has not only been upgraded to Android 9 Pie (unofficial), but the developer has modified and set it up in such a manner as to mimic the new Google Pixel 3 phone.
The developers has stated that:
"The goal is to reproduce the Google Pixel 3 system. This ROM also contains some useful tools."
Buyer acknowledges that this phone has a custom ROM and by purchasing, agrees that any ROM issues are not my responsibility, but the responsibility of the ROM developer. Any ROM support issues should be addressed to the developer. (Search Google for First Ever Android 9.0 for Nexus 5.)
As of this writing, the developer has marked the following project status:
- Almost everything
What doesn't work
- Gestures: Double-tap to check phone
Things to improve
The comments, questions, and answers in the Comments section of his website are also useful for understanding additional issues, problems, and solutions. Of particular note, the developer points out that the Pixel phone has more memory than the Nexus phone, and recommends deleting some apps if you find yourself running out of memory. The Xposed framework was used to create the Pixel-style notifications. If you need the phone to pass Safety Net (primarily financial applications), then the developer advises to uninstall Xposed, which will then revert back to the regular notification style.
Buyer should visit the developer's website to keep up on the project status and follow any issues that may be found.
Condition: Typical used condition with some dings, scratches, and scuffs. See photos for details. Of particular note is that the Black Nexus 5 comes with a rubberized coating that becomes soft and begins to rub off after several years. My wife has rubbed off as much as she could so that the plastic now has the gloss plastic look instead of the rubberized look. Some around the sides of the frame did not come off. Again, see photos for details.
